What Is Spinal Cord Injury

Transcript: The spinal cord is a bundle of nerves that runs from the brain all the way through the spinal canal. Spinal cord injury occurs when those nerves are cut or bruised resulting in either complete paralysis or incomplete paralysis, meaning that at the level that's harmed, if it's complete, all sensory and motor function below that level will be lost. An incomplete paralysis injury is when there is a bruise or partial cutting of the nerves but it only affects one side of the body below that level. Sixty-five percent of all spinal cord injury in our country is from motor vehicle accidents and falls, and there's over 12,000 spinal cord injuries every year. If you or a loved one has suffered a spinal cord injury please come in and meet with me, and I'd like to sit down with you and discuss together whether we have a case.
